Woven fiberglass cloths are very common for marine & composite construction and repair. Light weight cloths tend to provide a smooth finish and are excellent for producing a waterproofing layer over wood or other surfaces when combined with the appropriate resin. Heavier cloths will provide greater strength and overall rigidity.
Among reinforcements, Fiberglass Fabrics continue to be the most commonly used reinforcement in the composites industry today.
All Fiberglass Fabrics are woven for fiber orientation, and each fabric features its own unique weight, strength, and fabric characteristics, which should be considered before starting any project.
Different weaves:
Plain Weaves-Least expensive and least pliable, but hold together well when cut
Twill Weaves-A compromise between plain and satin weaves; pliable with moderate strength and desirable cosmetics
Satin Weaves-Pliable with moderate strength; feature one fill yarn that floats over 3–7 warp yarns before being stitched beneath another; produce flatter fabrics
